Didi Asks WB Police to Stay Alert on Border, Scolds DGP

The Trinamul Congress supremo also rebuked state DGP Rajeev Kumar for the first time and that too in public

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday ordered the state police to stay vigilant in the northern districts so that no terrorist can infiltrate the international borders with Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.

The Trinamul Congress supremo also rebuked state DGP Rajeev Kumar for the first time and that too in public. On border security, Ms Banerjee told an administrative review meeting at Uttarkanya, “Though there is the Border Security Force (BSF), state administrative officials must also remain vigilant. Border areas are very sensitive.”

She said, “Many from outside are coming here and disappearing with voter card and aadhaar card details. This happened with some people in our party. All have to stay alert so that no terrorist can take shelter here. Just because the BSF is there, it doesn’t mean that the Inspector-in-Charge (ICs) and Officer-in-Charge would keep their eyes shut.”

When TMC MP Jagdish Chandra Basunia complained about the damage of rural roads due to movement of overloaded trucks, the CM came down heavily on Mr Kumar in a rare outburst.

“Rajeev, how many times do I need to tell you the same thing? It doesn't feel good to repeat the same words everytime. It can't happen that someone would allow overloaded trucks plying on the rural roads by pocketing money. It is the job of the DGP to look into the activities of the ICs,” she told the state top cop.

Visibly embarrassed, Mr Kumar tried to assure Ms Banerjee saying, “I will look into it, Madam,” but it only boomeranged then and there. “I'm fed up hearing this. All districts have the same problem,” the CM added.
