Diabetic Fired for Calling in Sick Over Medical Emergency

Hyderabad: Nowadays, various employees are sharing their professional experiences on social media, which includes the challenges they face at their workplaces.

A woman recently claimed on Reddit that her employer fired her due to a medical emergency and even sent her belongings home. The employee, who goes by the handle "Hellokittypityparty," posted screenshots of her conversation with her boss on social media to support her allegations.
The woman said that as she is diabetic, she had to take off from work because her blood sugar level was dangerously high. However, her boss sent a text to her by saying that, she "didn't think that training would work out" for her. Later on, the boss informed her that she already packed her belongings at the workplace and dropped them off at her home.
After reading such a shocking text from her boss, the woman replied with a message saying ''I didn't realize that a dangerous night of blood sugars so high they could've put me in a hospital bed would be the end of working there, so yeah, I guess training is a no-go, but I won't pretend to appreciate the gesture of dropping off my things as I think it's quite likely that you simply can't face the gross decision of firing somebody over a medical emergency, let alone look me in the eye afterward(sic).''
The employee also said that if required she would’ve sent the doctor’s note as well.
She further wrote that, “If you had requested, I could have supplied a doctor's note, or even just sent photos of my glucose readings if my state of health was simply too unbelievable for you to process. It's rather sad that you guys were so kind for such a short period; a mask typically is capable of lasting longer, especially since I wasn't even on the schedule today; I volunteered to come in and then happened to have an emergency.”

Various social media users found her employer’s approach hard-hearted and insensitive and the post went viral. Many users told her to take legal action against her boss.
A social media user commented on her post, saying that, “Unsurprising but unacceptable. Really doesn’t matter if you’re on your death bed, companies could care less about anyone but their bottom line.''
Another user said ''As a type one as well, I would immediately be in touch with a law firm. They fired you over a disability.''
