Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Mumbai: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated an investigation into an incident in which three Air India aircraft were damaged at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
According to an official statement, all three aircraft have been grounded for inspection and maintenance.
The incident occurred on Sunday at Terminal 2 when ground support equipment struck the parked narrowbody A320 aircraft during adverse weather conditions. “Three Air India A320 aircraft parked at the Delhi Airport terminal-II were damaged by ground equipment/foreign object debris (FOD) during adverse weather conditions around 16:30 hours (on Sunday),” the statement said.
Authorities said strong winds caused ground equipment positioned at adjacent stands to shift from their locations and hit two aircraft at different points, causing damage. The right-hand sliding window of another aircraft was also damaged.
The ground equipment involved belonged to Air India Engineering Services Limited and IndiGo, and was displaced due to sudden inclement weather.
The DGCA is examining the circumstances leading to the incident.
