The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Thursday afternoon that Cyclone Ditwah has developed in the southwest Bay of Bengal. This marks the third cyclone to form after the monsoon this year. Currently located about 700 km south-southeast of Chennai, the storm is expected to approach the northern Tamil Nadu coast, Puducherry, and the southern coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh by November 30.
Several parts of Andhra Pradesh are forecast to experience intense rainfall across the south coastal and Rayalaseema regions on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely in Chittoor, Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, and Sri Sathya Sai districts over the weekend.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued alerts to district administrations, particularly in coastal and vulnerable areas, urging them to remain on high alert. Residents in low-lying and flood-prone regions have been advised to take necessary precautions, as the rains may disrupt daily life. Sea conditions are expected to remain rough, and authorities have strictly warned fishermen against venturing into open waters until conditions improve.
