Cyber Criminals Are Parasites, Must Be Dealt With Harshly: SC

Top court refuses to club multiple FIRs against an accused, stressing the need for strict action against cyber fraudsters.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday described cyber criminals as “parasites” and said strict action was necessary to deal with such offences.

A bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice V. Mohana made the observation while hearing a plea seeking clubbing of FIRs registered against a petitioner in different states.
"You people (cyber criminals) are parasites and you take money from innocent investors and dupe them. For cyber criminals, we have to be very harsh," the CJI observed.
The court noted that victims of cyber crimes are spread across the country.
"You cheat someone in Tamil Nadu, then you go to Jammu and Kashmir and then to the North-East," the CJI said.
The bench declined to entertain the plea for clubbing of FIRs, stating that it would be in the interest of society to keep cyber criminals behind bars.
The court said the petitioner was at liberty to approach the jurisdictional high court for appropriate relief.
