Telangana CM Revanth to Attend Key CWC Meet in Delhi Today

According to party sources, the Congress high command had convened the meeting to deliberate on the Centre’s move and to formulate a comprehensive party stand on the proposed caste census and Pahalgam terror attack

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will leave for New Delhi on Friday to participate in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, where the Centre’s decision to conduct the caste census as part of the national population census will be the central focus. The meeting is also expected to discuss the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

According to party sources, the Congress high command had convened the meeting to deliberate on the Centre’s move and to formulate a comprehensive party stand on the proposed caste census and Pahalgam terror attack. The CWC, the Congress’s highest decision-making body, is expected to adopt a resolution demanding that the Union government announce a clear timeline for the caste census, allocate requisite funds and remove the existing 50 per cent upper cap on reservations.

Revanth Reddy's participation holds significance in light of top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent appreciation of the Telangana government's caste census, which he hailed as a “role model” for the country. Rahul Gandhi had also lauded Revanth Reddy and his government for completing the caste census within a year of assuming office, during the AICC meeting in Ahmedabad last month.

The Congress leadership believes that Telangana’s caste census, which culminated in the passage of a Bill enhancing reservations for OBCs to 42 per cent in education, employment, and local bodies, has sparked national interest and exerted pressure on the Modi government to reconsider its stance on the national caste census.
