Telegram App Blocked in India Till June 22 Ahead of NEET-UG Re-Exam
The ministry has also directed Telegram to disable its message-editing feature in India for messages that have already been posted

New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Monday said that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued directions under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, restricting access to the Telegram platform in India for a limited period in connection with the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination.
According to the NTA, the restriction will remain in force until June 22, 2026, covering the day of the re-examination and its immediate aftermath.
The ministry has also directed Telegram to disable its message-editing feature in India for messages that have already been posted, with the measure remaining effective until June 30, 2026.
The NTA said the move aims to address concerns over the misuse of the platform's editing feature, which it alleged has previously been used to fabricate post-facto “paper leak” evidence related to national-level examinations.
The temporary measures have been implemented as part of efforts to safeguard the integrity of the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination process and prevent the spread of misleading or manipulated content online.
