Guwahati: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam police which on Friday submitted the chargesheet into the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg has invoked Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), a provision applied in murder cases against four accused currently in judicial custody.

Among the seven accused, Siddharth Sharma, Shyamkanu Mahanta, Amritprabha Mahanta, and Shekharjyoti Goswami have been charged under this section.

Additionally, Sandeepan Garg has been booked under Section 105 of the BNS, which is applied in cases of culpable homicide.

Personal Security Officer Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Bora have been charged under Criminal Breach of Trust (CBT), a BNS provision used in cases involving breach of trust.

Registered under FIR No. 18/2025, the 3,500-page charge sheet was submitted on Friday by Rosy Kalita, along with SIT officials. The submission was part of a team led by Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta, which also included Moromi Medhi and Nab Dekai.

The comprehensive documents submitted with the chargesheet reflects the depth and scale of the investigation, which has been going for several months, underscoring the meticulous efforts of the SIT in probing the singer’s mysterious death.

As the SIT on Friday submitted the chargesheet, a large crowd of Zubeen Garg’s fans gathered outside the court. Meanwhile, an ongoing digital campaign under the banner “Justice for Zubeen” has gained momentum on social media once again, demanding justice for the late singer.

Earlier, SIT chief Munna Prasad Gupta said that the charge sheet will now pave the way for the next phase of judicial proceedings, bringing Assam closer to clarity on the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
