Bhopal: Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is a move to shield vote theft and institutionalize it.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the ongoing training camp for the district unit chiefs of Madhya Pradesh unit of Congress at the hill town of Pachmarhi in Narmadapuram district, Mr. Gandhi said that ‘The main issue is vote theft which is now being covered by the SIR system’.
The Congress leader said that he had recently exposed the alleged theft of 25 lakh votes in Haryana.
One in eight votes in Haryana were stolen, he said.
Mr. Gandhi said that he believed that similar vote theft had taken place in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.
“This is the system of BJP and Election Commission”, he alleged.
Mr. Gandhi claimed that he has more such evidence and would expose much details about vote theft in future.
He said that the key issue is the attack on democracy.
“Democracy is being attacked. Ambedkar’s Constitution is being attacked. (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi ji, (Union home minister) Amit Shah ji and (Chief Election Commissioner) Gyanesh ji are doing this directly by forming an alliance. Because of this, the country is suffering a lot”, he alleged.
Earlier in the morning, Mr. Gandhi embarked on a jungle safari in Panarpani under Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR).
He interacted with the children after garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Chowk in Pachmarhi town.
Mr. Gandhi arrived in Pachmarhi on Saturday to address the Madhya Pradesh Congress unit’s training camp for newly appointed district and city chiefs at Pachmarhi.
Addressing the party leaders at the Pachmarhi meet on Saturday, he emphasized the need to strengthen the organization, ensure ideological clarity, and build a direct contact with the public to prepare for the 2028 Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh.
Mr. Gandhi exhorted the Congress leadership at all levels to wage struggle relentlessly to stage a comeback to the power in Madhya Pradesh in 2028.
He said that the Congress had been losing Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh by narrow margins and the party can return to power in Madhya Pradesh in 2028 if it fought bravely.
