Saamna Slams Amit Shah Over Bill for Removal of PM, CMs
The editorial accused the NDA leadership of “standing in the swamp of political corruption and debauchery” while pretending to clean up politics

New Delhi: An editorial published in the Shiv Sena (UBT) mouthpiece Saamna slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the new bill allowing the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and ministers facing serious criminal charges.
Titled “Shah’s flowery sermon... first take the Prime Minister’s resignation!” the editorial accused the NDA leadership of “standing in the swamp of political corruption and debauchery” while pretending to clean up politics. It argued that such individuals should not be appointed to top posts in the first place.
The editorial noted Amit Shah’s statement that “no government can be run from jail,” but countered that even appointing individuals who deserve to be in jail makes governance unjust. It added that when Shah presented the constitutional amendment bill in the Lok Sabha—proposing removal of PMs, CMs and ministers within 30 days of arrest—the Opposition tore it up, forcing him to retreat.
Recalling Shah’s 2010 arrest in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, the editorial said his resignation then was not out of moral conviction but due to “substantial evidence.” It alleged that Shah was later acquitted by “pressuring agencies” after the BJP came to power. It also claimed Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray and NCP founder Sharad Pawar had helped him obtain relief at the time.
The editorial further accused PM Narendra Modi of handing over airports, public land, and mining rights to Gautam Adani, calling it a “national crime.” It demanded that Shah register a case against Modi if he truly wants to uphold morality, arguing that the “loot by Adani during Modi’s tenure is greater than that of the British or Mughals.”
It claimed BJP governments across states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, have allocated vast tracts of land to Adani, while forest land has been cleared in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. The piece also accused Modi of negotiating with U.S. President Trump to shield Adani from corruption cases abroad.
The editorial alleged that Shah filled the BJP with “corrupt, murderers, rapists, black marketers, and looters,” controlled courts and the Election Commission, and undermined democracy. It demanded action against BJP leaders in Maharashtra, Assam, and Delhi before “preaching morality” to others.
Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha has referred three bills—the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025—to a Joint Committee of Parliament.
The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, seeks removal of a Central or State Minister facing serious criminal charges and under detention for 30 days. The Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, proposes a framework to remove the Chief Minister or ministers of the Union Territory in case of arrest or detention.
