He said India's high GDP numbers are due to productivity-driven governance and innovation-led growth policies

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday invited Jordanian companies to partner India and reap the benefits of its 1.4 billion consumer market, its strong manufacturing base, and its stable, transparent, and predictable policy environment. Speaking at the India-Jordan Business Forum in Amman, The Prime Minister proposed doubling bilateral trade with Jordan from current $2.8 billion to $ 5 billion over the next 5 years.

India is the third largest trading partner of Jordan. Jordan is a leading supplier of fertilisers to India, particularly phosphates and potash.

Both PM and Jordan King Abdullah II addressed the India-Jordan Business Forum in Amman. Following the Business Forum, PM Modi was accompanied by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II to visit the Jordan Museum. The crown prince personally drove the PM to the museum in a special gesture and later dropped him at the airport as PM left for Ethiopia.

Speaking at the Business Forum in Amman, PM Modi said both countries can join hands to become trusted supply chain partners for the world. PM also highlighted opportunities for India-Jordan business collaboration in the fields of Digital Public Infrastructure, Information Technology, Fintech, Health-tech and Agri-tech and invited start-ups from both nations to join hands in these areas.

He noted that India’s strength in pharma and medical devices sectors and Jordan’s geographical advantage could complement each other and make Jordan a reliable hub for West Asia and Africa in these fields. He also highlighted business opportunities for the two sides in the areas of agriculture, cold chain, food parks, fertilizers, infrastructure, automobile, green mobility and heritage and cultural tourism. Speaking about India’s green initiatives, PM suggested greater India-Jordan business collaboration in the fields of renewable energy, green financing, desalination and water recycling.

The King and the PM acknowledged the importance of increasing business-to-business ties between the two countries and called upon the industry captains from both sides to convert the potential and opportunities into growth and prosperity. King Abdullah II noted that Jordan’s Free Trade Agreements and India’s economic power could be combined to create an economic corridor between South Asia and West Asia and beyond.

The Forum was also attended by Crown Prince Hussein and Jordan Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister of Investment. The Crown Prince later drove PM Modi to Jordan Museum. The Crown Prince is a 42nd-generation direct descendant of Prophet Mohammad.

The Jordan Museum, located in the Ras al-Ein district of Amman, is the country's largest museum and showcases some of its most significant archaeological and historical artefacts. Built in 2014, the museum traces the civilisational journey of the region from prehistoric times to the present day. The museum's collection includes animal bones dating back 1.5 million years and the 9,000-year-old Ain Ghazal lime plaster statues, considered among the world's oldest ever made.

“Grateful to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II for showing me different aspects of Jordan’s history and culture at The Jordan Museum,” PM wrote on X while thanking the Crown prince for his special gesture.

PM added that during his Jordan visit, he interacted extensively with the Crown Prince. “His passion towards Jordan’s progress is clearly visible. His contributions to areas such as youth development, sports, space, innovation and furthering welfare of persons with disabilities are truly remarkable. My best wishes to him in his pursuits to strengthen Jordan’s growth trajectory,” said Mr Modi.

Highlighting the substantive outcomes of his visit to Jordan, PM termed it a "meaningful expansion" of cooperation between the two countries across sectors, including clean energy, water management, culture and digital innovation. In a series of social media posts on Tuesday, Modi said these outcomes mark a "meaningful expansion" of the India-Jordan partnership.

“My visit to Jordan has been immensely productive. I thank His Majesty King Abdullah II and the people of Jordan for their exceptional friendship.
