Madhya Pradesh: In a First, ‘Hindi Medical College’ to Come Up in Madhya Pradesh
This will be the first medical college dedicated to Hindi language in the country.

Bhopal: In a first of its kind initiative, a medical college teaching in the Hindi medium is to be established at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. This follows the introduction of the MBBS study in Hindi in medical colleges in 2022.
The proposal has been cleared by the executive council of the government-run Medical Science University (MSU), Jabalpur, Vice Chancellor Dr Ashok Khandelwal told this newspaper on Saturday.
“This will be the first medical college dedicated to Hindi language in the country. The college will be developed as a medical institute of excellence”, the VC said. It will be a residential medical college with an intake of 50 students. The college may start functioning in the 2027-28 academic year, if things go as planned, he added.
According to the Dr Khandelwal, land for the proposed college has been earmarked and a process to get approval of the state government as well as the National Medical Commission (NMC) has been set in motion. The medical college project will be fully sponsored by the state government.
“We have created infrastructure for MBBS study in Hindi for the new college. The syllabus has been translated into Hindi,” Dr Khandelwal added.
According to the VC, it has been noticed that students in some medical colleges who failed to clear semester exams in English did exceedingly well when they appeared for the exams in Hindi. Students studying MBBS in government medical colleges Pradesh have been given the option of appearing semester exams either in English or Hindi.
Madhya Pradesh has pioneered the concept of MBBS study in Hindi language to ensure that the students who are uncomfortable with English can pursue medical studies in their mother tongue, Dr Khandelwal said. The innovative concept is drawing attention of other states, he added.
