Madhya Pradesh: Cyber Frauds Rob Madhya Pradesh Residents of Rs 1,054 Crore in 4 Years
During investigation, a sum of Rs 105 crore was frozen, but only Rs 1.94 crore could be recovered.

Bhopal: People in Madhya Pradesh have been robbed off Rs 1,054 crore by the cyber fraudsters in the last four years, official data revealed on Tuesday.
The cyber frauds in which people lost Rs 1,054 crore were reported between May one, 2021 to July 13, 2025.
The cybercrimes included cases of phishing, OTP frauds, job scams, fake customer care traps and social media impersonation, the state home department has submitted.
Of the whopping amount of Rs 1,054 crore stolen in cyber frauds, hardly Rs 1.94 crore, constituting 0.18 percent, could be recovered by the police.
During investigation, a sum of Rs 105 crore was frozen, but only Rs 1.94 crore could be recovered.
The state home department made the submission in the House while replying to Congress MLA Jaivardhan Singh.
Sources said a total of 1,193 FIRs were filed in connection with the cyber frauds in the state since 2020, but charge sheets have been filed only in 585 cases.
The remaining cases are pending, under investigation and dismissed.
The biggest source of cybercrimes has been found to be social media misuse which accounted for 37 percent to 53 percent of all the cybercrime cases in the last four years.
The social media misuse related crimes included cyberbullying, sextortion, impersonation, and blackmail through social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
According to the home department data, around 70 percent of cybercrime victims were youngsters.
The percentage increased to 76 percent in 2023.
It has however declined to 65 percent in 2024 and 67 percent in 2025.
The current situation of cybercrime is a ‘cyber emergency’, the Congress MLA said.
