Kendrapara Girl Student’s Death: Boyfriend Arrested, Obscene Videos Recovered
A special police team tracked Behera to Chennai, arrested him and brought him back to Kendrapara for interrogation.
Bhubaneswar: Five days after a Plus-3 student from Pattamundai was found with fatal burns, police on Sunday arrested her boyfriend Pramod Behera from Chennai. The arrest has intensified the debate over whether the student died by suicide or was murdered.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the victim’s father at Pattamundai Rural police station, accusing Behera of harassment, blackmail, and pushing his daughter into depression.
Kendrapara superintendent of police (SP) Siddharth Kataria revealed that obscene photos of the victim were recovered from Behera’s phone. On July 17, Behera allegedly sent an explicit video of the victim to her father and two others, intending to circulate it.

The student’s body was discovered tied to a grill gate in her village. While the cause of death remains unclear, CCTV footage from the village has provided critical leads. Authorities have questioned the victim’s family as well as Behera’s mother and sister to resolve conflicting statements. Forensic teams are set to revisit the crime scene for fresh evidence, while digital experts analyze retrieved mobile data and CCTV footage.
