J&K: Two Militants Killed in Counter-Terror Operation in Udhampur
The encounter, which erupted after security personnel established contact with suspected militants hiding in the region, has led to the recovery of arms and ammunition

SRINAGAR: Two militants were killed in an ongoing counter-terrorism operation launched by security forces in the Majalta area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said on Thursday.
The encounter, which erupted after security personnel established contact with suspected militants hiding in the region, has led to the recovery of arms and ammunition, while extensive search operations continue to ensure no other militants remain in the area.
According to officials, the operation was initiated late on Wednesday evening after gunshots were reported from the Majalta area. "Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists, joint teams of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Army, including elite Para (Special Forces) personnel, swiftly moved into the area, cordoned off the suspected locations, and launched a large-scale search operation", they said.
As security forces tightened the cordon and intensified searches, they added, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire. 'Security personnel responded effectively, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists during the encounter", they said. A police spokesperson confirmed that the militants were neutralised during the operation, describing the action as "part of a sustained effort to prevent terrorist activity in the region."
Officials said arms, ammunition, and other incriminating materials were recovered from the possession of the slain militants. However, their identities and organisational affiliations have not yet been established. Authorities are carrying out verification procedures to ascertain their backgrounds and determine whether they were linked to any banned terror or separatist outfits operating in the Union Territory.
Following the encounter, additional reinforcements were rushed to the area as a precautionary measure. Security forces have intensified combing and sanitisation operations across the surrounding forested terrain to rule out the possibility of more militants being concealed nearby. Search teams are conducting thorough sweeps at multiple locations, while a heightened state of alert remains in force across the region.
Officials emphasised that the operation is still underway and that security agencies are maintaining strict vigilance until the entire area is declared clear. Further details, including the identities of the slain militants, their affiliations, and the exact quantity of weapons and ammunition recovered, are expected to be released after the completion of the ongoing search operation and subsequent investigation.
