WATCH: Protests Across India as Jantar Mantar Inspires Some, Angers Others

As protests and negotiations still ongoing in Delhi as protesters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continue their sit-in at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday, as the agitation over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations entered its second month.

Delhi: Opposition MPs staged a protest wearing black clothes on the Parliament premises. Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other opposition leaders were present during the demonstration. The protests come in the wake of the July 20 'Sansad Chalo' protest in the national capital, which witnessed police action. Opposition leaders have criticised the action, alleging that protesters were lathi-charged and subjected to tear gas. The opposition has condemned the police action and alleged that the detention of Rahul Gandhi and other leaders was an attempt to suppress democratic protests.

ANDHRA PRADESH: In Vijayawada, BJP workers staged a protest against the Congress demonstration held near the Prime Minister's official residence in Delhi. Raising slogans of "Rahul Gandhi Down Down", BJP leaders and workers marched towards the Congress office and attempted to lay siege to it. A scuffle also broke out between Congress and BJP leaders during the protest.

BIHAR: The Bihar Police on Wednesday fired tear gas shells, used water cannon and baton-charged to thwart a 'Lok Bhavan march' of student leaders here, who were demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation over the NEET paper leak. INTERNATIONAL: Activists from a US-based advocacy group held demonstrations in New York and San Jose to express solidarity with activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the NEET exams. Activists from the 'Hindus for Human Rights' gathered at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in New York City's Union Square and San Jose on Monday evening carrying placards bearing slogans in support of Wangchuk. JHARKHAND: AISA students protested on 21 July, in the support of ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar. Also burned the effigy of Education Minister (demanding his Resignation) and chanted against BJP.

MAHARASHTRA: The Congress and BJP staged separate demonstrations on Wednesday over the alleged police lathicharge on protesters in New Delhi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence a day earlier. BJP workers demonstrated outside the office of Jalna MP and Congress leader Kalyan Kale on the Ambad Road. They raised slogans against Rahul Gandhi and criticised the Congress.

RAJASTHAN: Congress workers held protests in Nagaur and Jalore in Rajasthan on Wednesday against the detention of party leader Rahul Gandhi during a demonstration in New Delhi.The party workers burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak issue.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, party MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav were forcibly removed by police on Tuesday after they staged a dharna outside the prime minister's residence, demanding his resignation. They were released after a few hours.

In Jalore district's Sanchore town, Congress workers, led by former state minister Sukhram Bishnoi, took out a procession from the district Congress office to the office of the additional district collector, where they burnt an effigy of the prime minister and raised slogans against the Centre.

Meanwhile, a large number of BJP leaders and workers started a foot march to the Congress office on Wednesday to protest the dharna by Rahul Gandhi and others outside the PM's residence.They were stopped by police who had put up barricades near the police commissionerate. The foot march, led by BJP state president Madan Rathore, began from the party office.

UTTAR PRADESH: The Uttar Pradesh unit of Congress on Wednesday held a protest outside the party office in Mall Avenue locality here against detention of its leaders, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra and others during a protest in Delhi.The party had planned to gherao Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence at 5 Kalidas Marg but party workers led by state president Ajay Rai were stopped outside the party office where police had put up barricades.

"The BJP government is committing atrocities on people. The way in which Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka ji were humiliated, party workers will gherao the CM's residence here," Rai said after coming out of the Congress office.

After the party workers were stopped by the police, they sat on dharna raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Adityanath.

MADHYA PRADESH: Opposition Congress created a ruckus in the Madhya Pradesh legislative assembly on Wednesday after its demand for a discussion on the police action against students at Jantar Mantar and the detention of Congress leaders in Delhi was rejected.

On the third day of the monsoon session, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar gave a notice for an adjournment motion demanding immediate discussion on these issues, but Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar rejected it, citing rules.

Opposition MLAs then stormed into the well and began shouting slogans. Tomar repeatedly requested them to return to their seats, but when his request was not heeded, he adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

TAMIL NADU: Congress workers staged protests in Tamil Nadu's Chennai against the alleged police lathi charge on protesters in Delhi and the detention of Rahul Gandhi.

The Tamil Nadu BJP on Wednesday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his sit-in outside the Prime Minister's residence in New Delhi and called it an "immature and irresponsible" move aimed solely at gaining publicity. Gandhi and other leaders were forcibly removed by police on Tuesday after they staged a dharna outside Narendra Modi's residence, demanding his resignation over NEET issue.

KERALA: The BJP on Wednesday marched towards the office of the KPCC here, accusing the Congress of "exploiting" students' protests over the alleged NEET paper leak for "political gains".The march, led by the party's state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, was attended by senior BJP leaders, including MLAs V Muraleedharan and B B Gopakumar.

The march, which started from Manaveeyam Veedhi, was stopped near the KPCC office after police erected barricades.

Tension prevailed after some protesters, raising slogans against the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, tried to move forward by jumping over the barricades.

The police fired several rounds of water cannon at protesting BJP workers to disperse them.

BJP workers pulled down the barricades and attempted to march towards the KPCC office, but the police prevented them from moving forward. Several women were among the protesters.

In Palakkad, the Youth Congress and Kerala Students Union (KSU) organised a march against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, demanding his resignation.

KARNATAKA: In Bengaluru, the Congress Legal Cell held a protest against the Central Government, with demonstrators also demanding the Education Minister's resignation. Congress workers were detained during the protest over the alleged NEET paper leak.

The Karnataka BJP on Wednesday took out a counter-protest march towards the Congress office here against the ruling party's demonstration near the BJP headquarters at Malleshwaram in the city.Earlier in the day, the Congress workers staged a protest outside the BJP state office against the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, demanding the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

GUJARAT: In Surat, Congress workers were also detained while protesting against the detention of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and raising the issue of the alleged NEET paper leak.

TELANGANA: State Congress held a protest at Lok Bhavan in Hyderabad, condemning Rahul Gandhi's detention. Police were deployed outside Lok Bhavan as Congress workers gathered for the 'Chalo Lok Bhavan' march.

Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao was on Wednesday taken into custody by police during a march to the ruling Congress office here to protest against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's dharna outside the Prime Minister's residence in Delhi.Raising slogans against Gandhi and the Congress government in the state, the BJP workers, led by Ramchander Rao, tried to march towards the state Congress office by breaching the barricades erected by the police.

However, Rao was interceptted and taken to Goshamahal police station.

Rao and other BJP activists began their march from their party's office at Nampally to the state Congress headquarters which is nearby.

Water cannons were used to stop the party workers who tried to jump barricades, a police official said.

GOA: The ruling BJP in Goa on Wednesday took out a protest march here to condemn Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's sit-in outside the prime minister's residence in Delhi a day ago, and accused the opposition party of misleading the country's youth.Congress leaders, led by Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, had staged a dharna outside the prime minister's residence in the national capital on Tuesday, demanding PM Narendra Modi's resignation over the police action against students protesting the alleged NEET paper leak issue.

Gandhi, party MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and other opposition leaders were later detained by the police.

In Panaji, Goa BJP president Damodar Naik led the protest march against Gandhi's Delhi agitation. Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, Vasco MLA Daji Krishna Salkar and other party leaders and workers took part in it.

JAMMU & KASHMIR: BJP workers also protested outside the Congress office in Jammu, where Congress workers came out and raised slogans, prompting police personnel to intervene and prevent the protesters from clashing.
