The delegation emphasised Odisha’s pivotal role as a leading steel-producing state in India

Bhubaneswar: A high-level delegation from the Indian Steel Association (ISA), led by its president and Lok Sabha member Naveen Jindal, on Tuesday met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to discuss key challenges and opportunities concerning the state’s steel industry.
Senior state government officials, including Chief Secretary Anu Garg; Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary (Steel and Mines) Deoranjan Kumar Singh; Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Hemant Sharma; Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Saswata Mishra; and Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) Chairman Girish S.N. and Managing Director Sudhansu Mohan Samal, were present at the meeting.
The delegation emphasised Odisha’s pivotal role as a leading steel-producing state in India and expressed appreciation for the State Government’s continued support to the sector.
The ISA suggested several measures to the State Government and the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) to boost iron ore availability for state-based industries.
It also requested fiscal incentives to attract investments needed to achieve Odisha’s ambitious target of 100 MTPA steel production capacity by 2030.
Furthermore, the ISA urged the government to constitute a dedicated task force to design a comprehensive logistics and infrastructure roadmap to support this capacity expansion.
Briefing the media after the meeting, ISA president Naveen Jindal said, “Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, significant progress is being made, with steel plants expanding rapidly and supporting infrastructure being strengthened across the state. Odisha’s mining policy and auction process are the best in the country, generating the highest revenue.”
“We informed the Chief Minister about the need to scale up iron ore production to sustain the growth of the steel sector. We also requested that steel industries in the state be given priority by the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) for iron ore allocation. I am thankful to the Chief Minister for assuring that there will be no shortage of iron ore for industries operating in Odisha,” he added.
Responding to queries on the Middle East situation and its impact on the Indian economy, Jindal said, “The Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, provides strong insulation for the country and its citizens against potential economic risks in the current scenario.”
Senior officials also shared their perspectives and assured necessary inter-departmental coordination to address industry concerns effectively.
The ISA delegation included Tata Steel Managing Director T.V. Narendran; ISA Secretary General Alok Sahay; Tata Steel Vice-President (Corporate Services) D.B.
