New Delhi : An exchange of gunfire broke out on Sunday between terrorists and security forces in the Khankoo forest of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, officials reported.
Acting on intelligence about suspected militant movement, police, supported by the Indian Army, launched a cordon-and-search operation in the forested area between Dachhan and Nagseni. According to officials, the hiding terrorists opened fire upon detecting the search parties, who immediately returned fire.
The brief encounter lasted several minutes, but authorities confirmed there were no casualties on either side. Reinforcements have since been deployed to the area, and search operations continue as security forces work to track down and neutralise the militants.
