New Delhi: The government is likely to assess concerns surrounding the extraction of data from public Instagram accounts, prioritising its alignment with the current legal framework. The ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) is expected to review the process after responses to the notices issued in this matter are received, a top ministry official said on Thursday.
The statement of the official comes after the government issued two crucial notices on public concerns — one addressing username-related issues and another focusing on child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The ministry, however, intends to examine all submissions meticulously before deciding on subsequent measures in compliance with the legal mandates.
Addressing at the CII event on the Global Capability Centres (GCCs) Business Summit, MeitY secretary S Krishnan acknowledged the public’s apprehensions and the urgency to determine the legality of the data scraping activities. “Formal responses would shape the ministry's forthcoming actions,” Krishnan said while announcing the review process in this matter.
On India’s AI mission, the IT secretary also said that India has the distinct potential to become the office space of the world, managing not just back-offices, but front-end global operations where AI will be the ultimate catalyst. “This is an extraordinary opportunity we cannot afford to miss, and AI will be the ultimate catalyst in this endeavour,” the official said.
On the growing significance of artificial intelligence, Krishnan emphasised that AI must be deployed meaningfully across GCCs by leveraging India’s core strengths in human capital and cost competitiveness. “It is vital for enterprises to adopt AI in a manner that effectively utilises the nation's inherent talent advantages and cost-efficiencies to drive sustainable value. Highlighting the evolution of the workforce,” he said.
“AI should be adapted to shift operations toward higher-order functions across various segments. AI provides a historic opportunity to transition from low-order execution to high-value strategic functions. However, any institution will always require a human interface to roll out and govern these functions, and this is precisely the leadership role that Indian GCCs must play,” he added. #End#
