ECI Finalises Electoral College List For V-P Election

The Vice President of India is elected by an Electoral College comprising the elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha, and the elected members of the Lok Sabha

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday said it has finalised the Electoral College list for the Vice Presidential Election.

The Vice President of India is elected by an Electoral College comprising the elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha, and the elected members of the Lok Sabha. “In compliance with Rule 40 of the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Rules, 1974, the Election Commission is mandated to prepare and maintain an updated list of the members of this Electoral College, along with their latest addresses. Accordingly, the Commission has finalised the Electoral College list for the Vice Presidential Election, 2025. These members are listed in a continuous serial order, arranged alphabetically based on the State/Union Territory of their respective Houses,” the ECI said.

The Electoral College list will be available to members at a counter set up in the Election Commission of India from the date of notification, which is likely to be announced soon, the ECI further said.

Meanwhile, the ECI said that the draft electoral rolls of Bihar prepared under Special Intensive Revision (SIR) will be published on Friday and the physical and digital copies of the same will be available to all recognized political parties in the entire 38 districts.

“The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar and 243 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will also be inviting any elector of that Assembly Constituency or any recognized political parties in Bihar to come forward and give claims and objections from August 1 to September 1 2025 for adding names of any missing eligible elector, removing names of any ineligible elector or correction of any entry in the draft electoral rolls,” the Chief Election Commissioner Mr Gyanesh Kumar said.

The SIR in Bihar has triggered a wave of protests and objections by Opposition political parties in both Delhi and in the state accusing the ECI of deliberating deleting the names of voters. A bunch of petitions against it have also been filed in the Supreme Court.
