EC Showing Bias and Police Supporting TD, Alleges Former Minister Nani

Vijayawada: Former minister and YSR Congress MLA Perni Venkataramaiah alias Nani on Sunday wondered how the Election Commission would order an inquiry based on a video clip posted by Telugu Desam on Social media platform Twitter (X) without authenticity.

He alleged that EC and the police showed bias towards the YSRC cadres during the poll day and during the post-poll violence, when TD goons went berserk. He accused the EC of behaving in wrong manners and the police officers of acting rudely. “The police ignored the violent attacks that occurred during and after the polling on May 13.”

Addressing the media here, the MLA said the police officers' behaviour was such that they would not book TD leaders even if they turned extremely violent. “Cases were unilaterally filed against YSRC leaders and activists.”

“Cases are being filed against innocent individuals, while the real culprits are allowed to roam around freely. When someone reported violence, the police did not respond immediately.

The former minister also alleged that, in some booths, TD leaders prevented YSRC workers from voting. “There was unrestrained violence at the Palvai Gate polling booth in Rentachintala mandal of Palnadu on the polling day. Yet, the police failed to maintain law and order.

Nani questioned why the TD did not complain on the same day if sitting MLA and YSRC Macherla candidate, Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy, had damaged the VVPAT machine during polling and why no case was registered.

The report submitted by the SIT to the state DGP did not even mention Pinnelli, he said.

He said that in the aftermath of the polling day, the TD instigated unrest in Palnadu district. In the village of Karempudi, TD leaders attacked the ruling party supporters and pro-YSRC people. TD gangs used firearms, and the police withdrew before the TD cadre unleashed havoc in the region, he said.

The former minister alleged that these incidents were part of a conspiracy orchestrated by the TD in collaboration with police officials. The YSRC has produced evidence of a conspiracy involving the TD and police leading to violence after the polls in the Palnadu region, he said.

Perni Nani emphasized that in Karempudi village, TD mobs targeted the residences and businesses of YSRC activists. “TD conspired to harm Macherla MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy. The Palnadu police are keen on arresting the MLA in connection with some false case.”
