Delhi Police Drops Case Against Minor in Modi Abuse Video Row

Delhi Police will not pursue criminal proceedings against a 15-year-old girl booked for using expletives against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar last month, according to sources cited in reports this week.
The case originated after a Zero FIR was registered by Noida Police' Expressway Police Station on July 29, following a complaint from advocate Smriti Singh Chandel, who said the remarks, made during the July 23 protest, had "hurt the dignity of the constitutional post" and were intended to disturb public peace. The FIR, filed under Sections 352, 353(1) and 356(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, was later transferred to Delhi's Parliament Street police station. It initially listed the accused's age as 25.
The girl subsequently released an apology video in which she said she was actually 15 years old and had been swept up by the crowd's rhetoric at the protest site. She described the episode as her first and last mistake and appealed to the country for forgiveness, saying she was too ashamed to face herself.
The apology surfaced shortly before PM Modi addressed the controversy directly. In a video message posted on Friday, Modi said he had forgiven the students accused of abusing him and urged society to guide them rather than seek punishment.
