Cong Gives Adjournment Notice in LS, seeks Debate on Pahalgam, Op Sindoor
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala submitted a Suspension of Business notice under Rule 267 to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: Congress whip in the Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore on Monday gave an Adjournment Motion notice in the Lok Sabha, while Congress Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala submitted a Suspension of Business notice under Rule 267 to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor in the Upper House of Parliament.
Submitting the notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Tagore wrote, "I give notice of my intention to move an adjournment motion to discuss a matter of urgent and serious national importance." He urged the Speaker to allow a discussion on alleged security lapses that led to the Pahalgam terror attack and foreign policy missteps post-Operation Sindoor.
The notice read: “Matter: Glaring security lapses that led to the Pahalgam terror attack, the questionable foreign policy handling in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, the recent claim by the US President that five Indian fighter jets were shot down, and the conspicuous silence of the Hon'ble Prime Minister even after 24 public statements by the US President taking credit for India’s ceasefire.”
Listing the grounds, Tagore noted:
-
The Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians exposed serious intelligence and security failures.
-
Operation Sindoor was executed with courage by Indian forces, and the House salutes their bravery.
-
The government failed to counter repeated claims by the US President that he brokered the ceasefire under trade pressure.
-
Trump’s statement about five Indian jets being shot down remains unaddressed—either way, it demands clarification.
-
The Prime Minister’s silence is eroding trust and damaging India’s diplomatic standing.
-
The Chief of Defence Staff’s comments on Operation Sindoor abroad, bypassing Parliament, raise accountability concerns.
Tagore urged the Speaker to suspend all other business to discuss this urgent matter.
Meanwhile, Randeep Surjewala submitted a notice under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha, asking for suspension of Zero Hour and other scheduled business to discuss the Pahalgam attack and India’s response through Operation Sindoor.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament begins today and is expected to be stormy, with the Opposition INDIA bloc planning to raise multiple issues, including the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, Bihar’s SIR exercise, and the Air India 171 crash. The session will continue until August 21, with a break from August 12 to 18, featuring 21 sittings over 32 days.
