CM Mohan Majhi Vows Stronger Healthcare Network for South Odisha
As part of this vision, the Chief Minister announced that new medical colleges will soon be established in Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Nabarangpur

Odisha: In a significant boost to healthcare in South Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday inaugurated the new Shaheed Laxman Naik Medical College building in Koraput — a 650-bed facility constructed at a cost of Rs 280 crore.
Positioning the project as a cornerstone of his government’s healthcare agenda, Majhi said the state is determined to ensure that residents of Koraput and surrounding tribal districts no longer have to travel far for advanced treatment. “From now on, the people of Koraput will get timely medical care right here,” he told the gathering, promising swift recruitment of doctors and staff so the facility operates at full strength.
The state-of-the-art complex is equipped with modern diagnostic and treatment facilities, and is expected to serve as a regional hub for specialised care. Majhi stressed that decentralising healthcare — by building high-quality institutions in rural and tribal areas — is key to improving health outcomes and reducing patient hardship.
As part of this vision, the Chief Minister announced that new medical colleges will soon be established in Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Nabarangpur, forming a wider network of training and treatment centres across Odisha.
The CM also linked healthcare expansion to infrastructure growth, unveiling plans to upgrade the Jeypore–Brahmapur–Bhubaneswar economic corridor into a six-lane highway, improving both patient mobility and regional economic prospects.
The Koraput project, he noted, is not just a building but a pledge — to bridge healthcare gaps in South Odisha, empower local communities with access to quality services, and restore public confidence in the state’s health system.
