Centre Declares Red Fort Blast a Terror Attack
Modi reaffirms zero-tolerance for terrorism

New Delhi: The government on Wednesday officially termed the car explosion outside the Red Fort as a terrorist incident and directed investigating agencies to pursue the case with the “utmost urgency and professionalism” to ensure that the perpetrators and their sponsors are brought to justice without delay.
A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon his return from Bhutan, reaffirmed India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
Observing a two-minute silence in memory of the victims, the Cabinet adopted a resolution expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and stated that the situation is being closely monitored at the highest levels of the government.
Modi also visited Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital to meet the injured soon after returning from his two-day Bhutan visit. Later, he chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security.
“The Cabinet directs that the investigation into the incident be pursued with utmost urgency and professionalism so that the perpetrators, their collaborators, and sponsors are identified and brought to justice without delay. The situation continues to be closely monitored at the highest levels of the government,” the resolution stated.
Terming the explosion a “senseless act of violence,” the Cabinet condemned the cowardly attack and extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. It also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and commended medical teams and emergency responders for their swift action.
Information and broadcasting minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, reading out the resolution, said the Cabinet appreciated global statements of solidarity and support received from many governments.
The Cabinet further praised the timely and coordinated response of authorities, security forces, and citizens who acted with courage and compassion. “Their dedication and sense of duty are deeply commendable,” the resolution said, reaffirming the government’s resolve to safeguard the lives and security of every Indian.
The Cabinet meeting took place two days after an explosives-laden car detonated outside the Red Fort, killing 12 people. On the same day, police arrested eight persons, including three doctors, after busting an inter-state “white-collar” terror module.
