New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday put up banners across the national capital to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 12 years in office.
PM Modi has officially become India's longest continuously serving Prime Minister, crossing the 4,399-day milestone in office. He surpassed former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's record of 4,398 consecutive days served after India's first general election.
Leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), international dignitaries, and prominent personalities from various fields congratulated the Prime Minister on the achievement.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa also extended his congratulations. In a post on X, he described the milestone as a historic moment in India's democratic journey and wished PM Modi continued success in leading the nation.
In an open letter, Yediyurappa highlighted key achievements of the NDA government during the past 12 years, including economic growth, the abrogation of Article 370, and welfare initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.
He noted that PM Modi had earned the distinction of being the longest-serving elected Prime Minister through repeated mandates in 2014, 2019, and 2024, reflecting the continued trust of millions of Indians.
Praising the government's economic record, Yediyurappa said India had risen from the world's 11th-largest economy in 2014 to the fourth-largest economy today, with GDP growing from about USD 2 trillion to over USD 4.18 trillion. He added that the country had moved from “red tape to red carpet” through reforms and investment-friendly policies.
The BJP leader also highlighted social welfare schemes, stating that the Ujjwala Yojana provided clean cooking gas connections to more than 10 crore families, while the Jan Dhan Yojana brought millions into the formal banking system through over 58 crore bank accounts.
Referring to the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, Yediyurappa described it as a bold and historic decision that ended Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and integrated the region more closely with the rest of the country.
Meanwhile, the NDA is set to hold a key meeting at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Wednesday. Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and senior leaders from all 22 NDA-ruled states and Union Territories are expected to participate.
Prime Minister Modi will chair the meeting, which will also be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior Union Ministers.
According to sources, the agenda includes a review of flagship government schemes and infrastructure projects, discussions on ensuring last-mile delivery of benefits, an assessment of the ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision for 2047, and deliberations on the ongoing crisis in West Asia.
