Hyderabad city possibly driving the beginnings of a covid third wave in TS
Hyderabad: Hyderabad city now appears to be driving the beginnings of a third wave of Covid-19 in the state with a surge in new cases on Thursday.
The state health department, in its daily Covid-19 bulletin, said the city, and the rest of the GHMC area reported 167 cases, rising by a little more than a third of the number of cases reported on Wednesday. Hyderabad had been witnessing a daily increase in new Covid cases since December 26.
The daily case numbers released by the health department showed that Hyderabad city had been contributing half, or more than half, of all cases found in the state over the past few days.
Director of health Dr G. Srinivasa Rao, earlier in the day, addressing a press conference, had also said the state was seeing a rising trend in Covid cases, and warned of a severe surge in numbers in the next two to four weeks.
On Thursday, Telangana state had a total of 280 cases, along with one more death from the disease, with the department reporting that there were 1,210 Covid patients in private and government hospitals across the state. In all, there were 3,563 active Covid cases in the state on Thursday, the department said.
