Hyderabad: The Director General of Police (DGP) M Mahendar Reddy while stating that 30 of 100 top Maoists were from Telangana state, pointed out that the department has tightened vigil, which is helping thwart Maoist activities in the state. The police radar is especially on the movements of the ‘urban naxals'.

"We are collecting evidence on the activities of urban naxals and we will file charge sheets against their nexus with the outlawed wing," Reddy said.

"The desperate efforts of CPI (Maoist) to revive the movement in Telangana are being effectively thwarted by the state police. No activities of underground armed formations of Maoist are noticed in the state. Timely dissemination of information led to occurrence of three exchanges of fire in which six Maoists were killed in Pesalapadu forest area bordering Bhadradri Kothagudem, thanks to the joint operation with Chhattisgarh police," he said.

"At least 98 extremists were arrested while 133, including district committee members - two, area committee members -- four and dalam members of eight surrendered," the DGP said.
