The ups and downs during TS elections
Hyderabad: Political abuse was part of the election scenario this year.
Name-calling and jibes at opponents surpassed limits of decency and the then caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, set a new trend in abusing political rivals.
The latter quickly followed suit. Some of the epithets used to describe opponents were betrayer, thieves, looters, bewakoof (stupid) Alibaba and 40 chor, mental, chandramukhi, mayakutami, Joseph Goebbels, dishwasher, dwarf etc.
Mr Rao made statements like Oo ante case, uchcha posthe case (they are filing cases even for urinating), Okatiki, rentiki povalanna Delhi permission kaalave (they will have to give permission even to urinate), Chembadka pothe vaasana lekunda chestharu (they promise even to keep your asses clean after you finish defecating) and Sanka Naakadam (Licking the arm pit).
Minister Harish Rao had said, “If such mindless talks (by the Opposition) continue like this, we will cut off your tongue, let me warn you” after leader Vonteru Prathap Reddy claimed during a campaign meet in Gajwel that Harish Rao is in touch with him.
Congress leader Uttam Kumar Reddy called Mr Rao battebaaz and dhokaybaaz.
He covered it up by saying that in the Hyderabadi dialect, a habitual liar and cheater is called a battebaaz and the term perfectly fits Mr Rao as he has cheated all sections of the society during his four-and-a-half-year regime.
Minister K.T. Rama Rao called Congress leaders ‘spineless’.
He said the future of Telangana state, if the Mahagathbandhan is voted in, spineless and scamgress men should be ashamed of themselves. Taking a jibe at AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the leader had said that the TRS will enter Andhra Pradesh to “politically finish off Naidu”.
Mr Naidu wants to make Nandamuri Suhasini a scapegoat and later wants to restrict her brothers, Mr Rama Rao had also said.
Congress leader Revanth Reddy gave the Chief Minister a run for his money when it came to using foul language.
After being released by police, he said, “Can KTR twirl his moustache? He doesn’t even have moustache. We don’t even know if you are a woman or belong to other gender.”
Retorting to allegations of the TRS that the Prajakutami CM is a ‘sealed cover’ CM, Revanth Reddy said, “If Mahakutami candidate is ‘sealed cover CM’, isn’t it better than your cheap liquor CM?”
Revanth’s darts were aimed at Mr Rao.
He had said, “Kallu thagina kothi (KCR) is like a monkey which has consumed toddy.”
