Petty cases rise in Gopalapuram
Hyderabad: With 3,762 petty cases booked in 2017, Gopalapuram division under the North Zone of Hyderabad police commissionerate registered the highest number of petty cases in the city.
Gopalapuram ACP K. Srinivas Rao said during the annual crime review that the new initiatives and programmes partnering with the community yielded good results in reducing the crime rate. CCTV cameras have played a major role in crime prevention and detection as well, he said.
The division comprising of Gopalapuram, Chilkalguda, Tukaramgate and Lallaguda police stations secured 354 convictions in 2017, a 300 per cent increase from 136 in 2016. The division also witnessed fewer cases of chain-snatching and grave offences, while property offences, crime against women and Pocso cases saw a marginal rise.
Mr Srinivas Rao said crime against women saw a rise as every complaint coming to the police station was registered as a case without delay. “In offences against women and children, immediate action was taken and the responsible persons were arrested and produced before the court. Even in the recent sensational case where a woman Sandhya Rani was set ablaze by one Karthik who was harassing her, the accused was detained within hours and arrested.”
The police filed 264 cases against persons caught drinking on the road. “This drive is conducted every day. Hotspots are identified, teams are deployed and the violators are penalised.
ACP said that they went tough on sound pollution and booked 89 persons for violating the permissible sound limit. Of these, 45 were convicted and 38 were fined.
