Telangana Congress complains to Pranab Mukherjee about land law
Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) took the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment) Bill, which it opposed, to the President of India for review on Friday.
TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy led a delegation to President Pranab Mukherjee, who is currently in residence at the Rashtrapati Nilayam in Bolarum, and submitted a memorandum listing eight shortcomings in the Bill and asking him to refuse approval if the State “amendments are seen as a method to bypass critical safeguards and infringe upon the rights provided to the affected families.”
Enclosing a copy of the central Land Acquisition Act of 2013, and a copy of the Land Acquisition Act of the government of Telangana, 2016, Mr Reddy said in the memorandum: ‘It is our humble appeal that this State law be seen for what it is—an attempt to take away the hard fought rights and protections afforded to the affected families. All in the name of administrative convenience in land acquisition.’ “The President has promised to look into the matter,” Mr Reddy said.
