Plug loopholes in legal aid law: Hyderabad High Court tells Telangana, AP

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has suggested that the Legal Services Authorities of AP and Telangana may examine the possibility of plugging the loopholes in the regulations of Legal Service Authority Act. This law envisages legal aid to needy persons to ensure that the munificent provisions of the Act are not misused by clever, ingenious and incorrigible litigants by indulging in speculative litigation.

A division bench comprising Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy and Justice M.S.K. Jaiswal was allowing a petition by Navya Infracon Projects seeking to action of the District Legal Services Authority of Visakhapatnam in exempting certain fishermen from payment of court fee of Rs 18,59,104 as illegal arbitrary and in violation of Section 13 of Legal Service Authority Act.

The bench directed the district committee to reassess and re-evaluate the case and also determine whether the claim of the respond-ent plaintiffs that they are eligible for exemption based on the income limit under the law is bona fide or not.

ONGC told to regularise:

The Hyderabad High Court on Friday directed ONGC to regularise services of the contract employees, who have been working at ONGC, Rajahm-undry for the past 20 years, Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao directed that all the petitioners who have completed 240 days in the period of 12 months after their appointments on term basis in 2008 shall be regularised by ONGC in the posts to which they are attached within two months. The judge has also barred ONGC from taking any regular recruitment for the posts in A1, A2 and W1 levels till the petitioners’ services are regularised.

HCA members arrest stayed:

The Hyderabad HC has directed the Cyberabad police not to arrest the office bearers of Hyderabad Cricket Association till further orders. Justice Raja Elango granted interim order, while dealing with a petition by some of the HCA members seeking to quash the criminal proceedings registered against them on alleged misappropriation of funds of HCA.
