DC impact: Parties take up poor upkeep of Assembly
Hyderabad: The Congress and the BJP have served a notice to the Legislative Council chairman and the Assembly Speaker, to raise the Deccan Chronicle report in their respective fora. The report revealed the poor maintenance of the old Assembly and Legislative Council buildings. BJP Floor leader G Kishan Reddy gave notice to the Speaker to raise the issue during zero hour in the Assembly, which is likely to be taken up on January 3.
Congress MLC P Sudha-kar Reddy raised the issue in the Legislative Council. But Council chairman Swami Goud said that since a notice was already given in the Assembly, the issue should be raised in another form. “I was pained at reading about the poor maintenance of the two ancient buildings which appeared in Deccan Chronicle. Government should act fast, take up repairs and restore the buildings to their original glory. There is no shortage of funds or staff to keep the premises clean. It’s wanton neglect,” Mr Sudhakar Reddy said.
The Deccan Chronicle article of December 23 titled ‘Legislature buildings sorely need repairs’, highlighted the poor condition of the Nizam-era Town Hall building and the new annexe now housing the Telangana and Andhra Assembly, and Jubilee Hall, a royal palace which was turned into the Telangana and Andhra Legislative Council.
