RTC driver dies at Saroornagar meet

The meeting started at about 2 pm and before it concluded, Babu went out with some others to have tea at a nearby stall.

Hyderabad: A striking RTC driver from Karimnagar who attended the Sakala Jana Bheri, a public meeting held by the RTC Joint Action Committee in connection with the ongoing strike of the employees, suffered a cardiac arrest and died on Wednesday.

The driver, Nangunuri Babu, 52, was working at the Karimnagar 2 bus depot. He and several others from Karimnagar attended the public meeting held at Saroornagar Indoor Stadium in LB Nagar.

The meeting started at about 2 pm and before it concluded, Babu went out with some others to have tea at a nearby stall. While drinking tea, he collapsed on the road.

He was immediately taken to Ozone Hospital in Kothapet, but the doctors declared him brought dead.

Inspector, R. Saidulu of the Chaitanyapuri police, said, “The driver N. Babu suffered cardiac arrest while having tea outside the stadium. He was declared dead when taken to a hospital. The body was sent to Karimnagar, and no complaint has been received in connection with the incident.”

RTC JAC convener, Asvatthama Reddy, told the media that Babu's death is heart-breaking.

“It was very saddening to see a fellow employee dying after coming to the meeting. This is the 16th incident of death since the strike was called and the state government should take responsibility for the death,” he said.
