Probe KKNPP security lapses: MK Stalin

The cyber attack on NPCIL facilities is shocking and reveals the lack of adequate safety measures, says Stalin.

Chennai: Among the many anguished people was the DMK president MK Stalin, who took to twitter for demanding that the Union Government order ‘a thorough enquiry’ into the security lapses at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP).

“The cyber attack on NPCIL facilities is shocking and reveals the lack of adequate safety measures,” said Stalin, adding, “The National Cyber Security Coordinator owes an explanation on the preparedness of such facili-ties.”

Also, the environmental group ‘Poovulagin Nanbargal’ expressed concern that the NPCIL acceptance of a cyber attack on its systems at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant “only confirms the worst fears that nuclear reactors are not only prone to natural disasters, but also to cyber attacks.”

They said the ‘callous manner’ in which the NPCIL had dealt with this issue ‘even furthers fears’, and wanted the Central and State Governments to investigate this cyber attack thoroughly and bring the culprits to task.

The group also demanded that the Tamil Nadu government should scrap the permissions given for further expansion of reactors “as any disaster is the responsibility of the state government.”
