Kochi: The high court on Tuesday rejected a petition seeking judicial probe into the recent violence at Sabarimala holding it would not like to interfere on the discretionary powers of the government.
The security of Sabarimala is a matter coming under the discretionary power of the state government, and the court has limitations, it held.
It is for the state cabinet to decide on ordering a judicial probe and for the government to issue the necessary notification, the court observed.
Rajendran, a native of Kollam, approached the court seeking a judicial probe on the incidents in Sabarimala Sannidhanam, Nilakkal and Pamba during October 17-20 when the temple was open for monthly pujas.
The petitioner also alleged a conspiracy in the attempt by Rehana Fathima to enter Sabarimala and sought a probe into the role of IGs Manoj Abraham and S. Sreejith.
In another petition, the court asked the government to keep it informed of all decisions taken by the government in connection with the Sabarimala pilgrimage.
It directed the government and the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to inform the court about the arrangements in time.
The court asked the government whether it has issued any directive to the TDB in contravention to the existing rules.
It sought details of timings for visits to the hill shrine newly set by the government and posted the case for further hearing on Monday.
