Tamil Nadu: Cloudburst leaves a few areas inundated

Chennai: Widespread spell of rain on day four of northeast monsoon lashed several parts of Tamil Nadu. Influenced by an upper air circulation over South West Bay of Bengal, rains intensified on Sunday night.

Regional Meteorological Center forecast heavy rains in isolated places over Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram districts of Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will continue for next four days. Heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places over rest Tamil Nadu. “Cyclonic air circulation is to bring moderate showers in interior districts, while some areas in coastal districts of Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Ramanathapuram might experience heavy and very heavy rains as well,” said S. Balachandran, Director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre.

Weather blogger Pradeep John claimed that Southern Chennai and suburbs may witness cloudburst. “The downpour due to cloudburst on OMR and southern suburbs of Chennai city was very intense. About 100 mm was recorded in just 45 minutes in Perumbakkam near OMR in a private weather station,” he said.
