Dr Ravindranath Shanbhag rejects Rajyotsava Award
Udupi: Saddened by the non implementation of the Senior Citizens Protection Act, activist Dr Ravindranath Shanbhag has decided not to receive Karnataka Rajyotsava award.
On Monday evening, the state government had released the list of Rajyotsava Awardees. Human Rights Protection Foundation president Dr Ravindranath Shanbhag's name was listed for his contribution in social work. However Dr Shanbhag has decided not to receive the award.
“I am not arrogant, I do not want to insult anybody. But I will not accept the award. What is the meaning of receiving the award when my fight for senior citizens’ protection has not succeeded?" he questioned.
“I have been fighting for the implementation of the Senior Citizens Protection Act since several years. Many senior citizens are still suffering and waiting for justice. Is it correct on my part to go and receive the award? There is no question of receiving the award," Mr Shanbhag told DC.
“Six senior citizens have died before they got justice. There are many who are still waiting for justice despite the Assistant Commissioner issuing orders in their cases.” he said
