JNTUA to introduce honours degree

Anantapur: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur vice chancellor Prof. B Ranga Janardhan said along with regular degree courses in engineering, an honours degree will also be introduced at the university campus and all constituent and affiliated colleges under JNTU-Anantapur.

The decision was taken at a meeting of all constituent and affiliated college principals and managements of Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Chittoor and Nellore engineering colleges affiliated to JNTU-A on Wednesday. The meeting also dwelt on possible changes in the B. Tech course structure as part of New Education Policy.

Speaking on the occasion, Janardhan said a student can get the honours degree by achieving 15 credits. He further said five professional electives, four other electives and five skill-oriented courses will be introduced along with credit transfer policy.

The VC said students who wish to get honours degree will also have to do two summer internships in second and third year of engineering. In the fourth year, a second semester project or internship semester will be introduced.

Students will have the eligibility to apply for the honours degree with 7 CGPA till the third year of the regular degree. Multiple exit policy will be introduced in the degree courses.

JNTU-A rector Prof. M. Vijayakyumar and JNTUA registrar Prof. Sasidhar also spoke at the meeting.
