R.Kamaraj assures all help for direct sowing

Rs 10.50 Cr earmarked for Tiruvarur dt to cover 1.75 lakh acres under direct sowing in the district.

TIRUVARUR: The Tamil Nadu Government has allocated a sum of Rs 30 crore for providing direct sowing subsidy of Rs 600 each for five lakh acres across the State, during the current ‘Samba’ season, according to State Food Minister R.Kamaraj.

The Minister accompanied by the Tiruvarur collector T. Anand and others inaugurated the mechanised direct showing scheme at Kumarapuram near Mannargudi near here on Friday. He said Rs 10.50 crore has been earmarked for Tiruvarur district to cover 1.75 lakh acres under direct sowing in the district.

During the current ‘Samba’ season, it is proposed to cover 3,25, 560 acres under paddy including 1.38 lakh acres under the direct sowing, he said, adding, adequate seeds and other agricultural inputs are available in all the agriculture extension centres.

PROTEST:
Meanwhile, A section of farmers hailing from Mangudi, Senthanangkudi, Koodur, Mosakkulam, Athangkudi, and Kamalapuram in Tiruvarur district staged a novel demonstration by garlanding the irrigation regulator and also observed “condolence” at Pandavaiyaaru at Koodur, near Tiruvarur on Friday, demanding the immediate release of Cauvery water in Pandavaiyaru.
