Non-bailable warrant against Congress leader Renuka Chowdary

The warrant was issued for not attending court hearings and not receiving court notices pertaining to a criminal case.

Khammam: The second additional junior judge of the Khammam court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against former Union minister Garapati Renuka Chowdary on Friday. The warrant was issued for not attending court hearings and not receiving court notices pertaining to a criminal case.

A case was registered against Ms Chowdary and seven others under the SC and ST Atrocities Act and IPC 420 (cheating) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) in March 2015.

In the case, Ms Bhukya Kalavathi, the wife of Ramji Naik, alleged that Ms Chowdary had cheated her husband, who died as a result of the mental agony caused by the former minister.

She said that Ms Chowdary took Rs 1.20 crore in various instalments from Ramji Naik on the assurance of securing him the Congress ticket for Wyra Assembly constituency in the 2014 elections.

She said that the assistants of Ms Chowdary — Pullaiah, Rama Rao, Ranga Reddy, Pulla Reddy and others — had abused Ramji Naik on caste lines.
