Kerala High Court favours probe into PSC exam fraud
KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday said that an independent, impartial and comprehensive probe should be conducted into the recent affairs of Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) so as to bring back the confidence of the public in the agency.
The single bench also said that the probe should at least cover the recent appointments.
The court made the observation while rejecting the anticipatory bail plea of fourth accused D. Safeer in the case pertaining to sending phone messages as answers to help the accused in the University College murder attempt case during the police constable examination of the PSC.
The case against Safeer is that he tried to help the key accused Sivaranjith and Naseem, who stabbed a student, Akhil, of the University College. The investigation proved that on the date of the exam on July 22, the accused had received 94 mobile phone messages. Safeer maintained that he was innocent and that the prosecution could not prove from where he had received the answers. The prosecution sought his custody for questioning to prove the same and the court agreed. It also said that this was needed to bring to book the conspirators also. It directed the accused to surrender before the investigating officer if the arrest was not made in 10 days. Only those eligible should be appointed through PSC, it said. The court later said that a comprehensive and transparent probe should be held in this regard.
