Don't limit innovation to technology: Venkaiah Naidu

Dr. WR Reddy, IAS, Director General, NIRDPR, said, There is an urgent need to accelerate the whole process of rural transformation.

Hyderabad: “Today’s innovation is mostly limited to the Software and Information Technology sector and it is time to recognise and reward rural innovations as well,” said Vice-President Mr Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday at the second prominent edition of Rural Innovations and Startup Conclave (RISC) which witnessed around 300 participants from 23 states and was organised by the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRDPR).

The platform brought together innovators and entrepreneurs for unlocking new potential in seven identified sectors - agriculture and allied activities, green energy, waste to wealth, sustainable housing, health and elderly care, drinking water and sanitation, and sustainable livelihood.

While inaugurating RISC at NIRDPR, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu in his address said, “To create transformation across the country, there is a need to increase the focus on the five Is for rural development: Irrigation, Infrastructure, Interest Rates (reduction), Insurance and Innovation. The Rural Technology Park at NIRDPR is a step in the right direction that is helping identify, demonstrate and encourage sustainable technologies. Such initiatives by NIRDPR will be instrumental in bridging the rural-urban divide.”
