KOZHIKODE: Rescue volunteers in the district would be brought under the same umbrella soon, thanks to the efforts being made by the Police to coordinate their work more effectively. A park is being set up, opposite Kandamkulam jubilee hall, which will be open round the clock for volunteers and members of the public who are ready to chip in.

The park, named ‘Rakshapravarthanam (rescue operations) will be opened to the public on October 2 by Corporation Mayor Thottathil Raveendran, said Kasaba CI Pramod P. The construction work is being carried out by architecture students of Veda Vyasa College, funded by a private builder. The park is coming up in an area, where Noushad, an autorickshaw driver sacrificed his life to rescue two others trapped in a manhole.

“Police will ensure that the park is not destroyed by miscreants and the volunteers are free to use it 24 hours a day, with the help of the patrolling team. Loitering, destruction of the park, putting up other advertisements and drug menace in the area would be taken seriously,” said Mr Pramod.

Pink Patrolling, will start its daily patrols from this area, said the police. The public can suggest the names of those who have excelled in rescue operations. Information can be passed on to the inspector’s number 9497987178.
