Kerala: Congress family meets till October 31
Thiruvananthapuram: The family get-togethers of Congress, expected to be completed by this month end, have been extended to Oct 31.
There are several booth committees which have come under the wrath of the DCCs for not holding family meetings resulting in their suspension.
The initial understanding of the KPCC was that each booth committee should be holding a minimum of three family meets. Currently, there are 24, 000 booth committees in the state. But unfortunately what had been happening now is that two to four ward committees joined hands to hold a family gathering.
When it comes to a family meeting, what the party has envisaged is that all the members of a household would be attending. But it failed to work out as they were facing a dearth of funds, though it could create a flutter among workers.
“Each family meeting would ideally see at least 100 members attending, which requires Rs 25, 000 to meet the food and miscellaneous expenditure. It is easy for the leadership to direct committees to hold meetings, but in reality, it's hard to organise the meticulously,” said a Congress MLA.
The local leaders are hesitant to go on fund raising campaigns. But in some areas, local leaders who have got a stake in their neighbourhood took pains to hold family meetings pooling in money.
The leadership is happy as workers in deep slumber ever since the drubbing in the 2016 Assembly elections, have become active again.
