Dr K Laxman's Telangana Vimochana Yatra from September 1

Dr K. Laxman said Union home minister Rajnath Singh would address a huge rally on September 17 in Nizamabad.

Hyderabad: State BJP president Dr K. Laxman will undertake a week-long ‘Telangana Vimochana Yatra’ starting from September 1 as part of the campaign demanding September 17 be celebrated by the state government as Telangana Liberation Day.

He told mediapersons on Wednesday that Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya would launch the yatra and Union minister of state for home Hansraj Ahir Gangaram would take part in the culmination day event on September 7 at Appampally in Mahbubnagar district.

He said Union home minister Rajnath Singh would address a huge rally on September 17 in Nizamabad. He said the the BJP had held a rally and public meeting in 1998 on the same demand, that was attended by then Union home minister L.K. Advani.

Dr Laxman said his yatra would cover historical places which were witness to the brutality of Razakars and valour of the martyrs who fought for freedom from the Nizam.

These places include Parkal, Errupalem, Tirumalagiri, Bairanpally, Sircilla, Dasaradhi Khilla, Gowrelly and Appampally.

Dr Laxman said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had several times in the past stated that not observing Liberation Day as an official event was the “conspiracy”, and promised to celebrate it as a state event.

After coming to power, Mr Rao had buckled under pressure from the MIM from the Razakars, and decided against it, he said.
