Telangana is fourth in human trafficking
Hyderabad: Telangana stands fourth state in human trafficking cases in the country after Tamil Nadu, Assam and West Bengal. Telangana contributed 8.2 per cent of the total cases reported in India in 2015, National Crime Records Bureau data revealed.
Police said human trafficking cases consist of import of girls from a foreign country, procurement of minor girls, buying and selling of minors for prostitution.
National Crime Records Bureau data revealed that 561 cases were reported in Telangana in 2015. Assam and West Bengal registered more than 1,000 cases of human trafficking. Incidentally, a large number of girls, who were trafficked to Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana, are from West Bengal and Assam.
According to CID officials, women from Maharashtra, Delhi, and from West Godavari, are trafficked to Telangana for sex work by organised criminal gangs.
Police said most of the human trafficking cases came to light due to frequent raids in Hyderabad by special police teams. Special operation teams have been conducting raids on the city’s outskirts and residential areas where most sex rackets were busted last year.
