Drive to contain mosquito menace launched
HYDERABAD: Urban local bodies (ULBs) across the state have started the fight against mosquitoes ahead of monsoon. The municipal corporations and municipalities have taken up ‘Dryday Friday’ (DFD) programme to address the mosquito menace.
All 141 ULBs, including 12 municipal corporations, 2,496 elected representatives, and municipal employees took part in the programme. They dropped anti-larval oil balls in 14,260 water cess pools. Gambusia fish were released in 108 ponds and water tanks.
The anti-larval activities were taken up in 571 government offices, 1141 ward offices, 294 community halls, 1048 government schools, 174 rain water harvesting tanks and 371 community places.
Ranga Reddy district topped in conducting DFD programme as 222 highest number of elected representatives took part in the programme.
The dryday programme was in response to the directions issued by municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao on July 27.
