Residents object to retaining wall at Hasmathpet nala

Despite repeated complaints to defence ministry and SCB chief executive officer, there has been no response

Hyderabad: Residents of Amaravati, Sail and Parkview colonies in New Bowenpally within the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) have on Saturday charged that no action is being taken over their complaints about improper construction of a drainage tunnel and retaining wall, which is preventing free flow of storm water into the Hasmathpet nala.

Members of residential welfare associations in these colonies pointed out that SCB has constructed a three-foot wall next to the under-the-road drainage tunnel, which is stopping water from entering the nala.

Amaravati Cooperative Housing Society Welfare Association secretary G. Suryanarayana said, “Since 2017, after each heavy rain, our colonies get flooded with water from the nala. The retaining wall at under-the-road drainage tunnel is the cause. Despite repeated complaints to defence ministry and SCB chief executive officer, there has been no response. This is despite the construction being against Sections 218 and 222 b of the Cantonment Act.”

Suryanarayana demanded that the wall be demolished and the plan to connect sewage outlets to Hasmathpet nala scrapped.
