Chaos at Covid vaccination camp in Marredpally

In visuals captured by some residents, people, who have been deprived of vaccines for a month, rushed to the centre to take their shots

HYDERABAD: Chaos reigned supreme at a multipurpose function hall in Marredpally on Friday, which had been the venue of a vaccination centre. People could be seen clambering over one another to be the first to get vaccinated.

In visuals captured by some residents, people, who have been deprived of vaccines for over a month, rushed to the centre to take their shots – Covaxin or Covishield.

“We have been asking officials to set up more vaccination centres in cantonment board limits, at least one per ward in total eight wards. But there are only four centres of which three have no vaccines. The one open had only 1,500 doses of Covaxin,” said T. Satish Kumar of Vasavi Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association.

Most people who thronged the centre on Friday had gone to take their second dose of vaccine. But owing to limited number of vaccines, the centre soon exhausted the doses.

In a series of letters written to cantonment board officials, MLA G. Sayanna has underlined that there must be one vaccination centre for every civilian ward. But this is not the case.
